The Spighe Verdi award has been assigned to Matelica Municipality for several years now. The Spighe Verdi prize is recognized to those municipalities that stand out for their commitment to green energy and sustainability. In fact, Matelica Municipality has adopted thermal and energy efficiency strategies for municipal buildings and public lighting; has implemented several photovoltaic systems with an interesting energy production. Using EU founding, Matelica Municipality has provided an electric car for the local Police and two E-bikes to be used by citizens with limited mobility. A charging station for electric vehicles is currently in operation, and a further no. 7 columns are being installed across Matelica city.
